Here are some things that you should do.

1. Remove the grease filter from the range hood. Slide the grease filter out of the range hood and remove the clips holding it in place.

2. To hold the grease filter, heat 1/2 cup of ammonia and 12 cups hot soapy water. To remove any dirt or grime, let it sit for 30 minutes. Rinse well and allow it to dry.

3. The exhaust fan should be removed. To remove the fan, use a socket and a driver to loosen it from its cover. Before proceeding, ensure that the exhaust fan has been turned off.

4. The fan blades should be cleaned. This can be done by soaking an old toothbrush in ammonia water and then brushing the blades with it. Use gloves to avoid injury.

5. Clean the exhaust ductwork. You can use a plumber’s snake with a heavy-duty towel tied around the end. Push the snake through the conduit. You should soak the rag in the ammonia-water solution.

Then, you should run the rag through the ductwork. Rinse the rag and repeat the process until you are satisfied with the cleanliness of the ductwork.
