What is ESD Floor Systems?

Conductive PVC-coated rubber tiles are used as a decorative material on prefabricated floors. It is made from pure PVC powder plastic (PVC Resin), which acts as the main material and binder. This gives it permanent electrical discharge characteristics through high-pressure baking.

ESD stands for electrostatic discharge. This is the phenomenon where a charged object contacts another object. A dangerous charge can be created by anything, including walking on a static-generating floor or sliding out of a car. A static discharge is often associated with the sensations of “ouch”, the zap, and the mini bolts of blue lightning. The majority of static discharges below 3500 volts are invisible to the human eye. ESD events, which are similar to common cold germs in that they occur all around us, cause damage to sensitive microelectronics within computers and other electronic devices.

ESD events can be avoided by preventing static generation. ESD is a case where prevention is better than cure. ESD events can’t occur if the environment doesn’t allow for static generation. You can create a static-free environment by eliminating static-generating surfaces such as tile, rubber, and carpet. These surfaces are known as ESD flooring. Others common names include anti-static flooring and dissipative floors.
